Recently I heard rumors that the Chernobyl nuclear disaster was also caused by an earthquake, but that some forces in former Soviet Union, including the KGB, didn’t want this to become public. Anyway that’s not what I want to say here.
Do you know what’s the difference between the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and the one at Fukushima? The most important may be, that Chernobyl was a military facility to produce plutonium. To get high quality plutonium you have to change very often the fuel rods. With often I mean every few days. So the radioactivity inside the reactor stays relatively low. But in a civilian nuclear power plant, as Fukushima is supposed to be, the fuel rods stay inside the reactor for years, which causes a way higher level of radioactivity. If we consider this, Fukushima could be worse than Chernobyl. Because of several reasons you will never read this in a newspaper or hear this from a government official, because they are not interested in telling you this.
If you know German, I would suggest you to see this Interview with Holger Strohm I posted earlier.
